Whakatau Wairua - Te Hokinga Mai

This week Kawakawa Primary School hosted a very special occasion in our Marae Tumanako.
On Thursday and Friday whanau from around the community came with photos of their loved ones to hang on the wall of our whare nui.  These photos are of our beloved past pupils and staff members of the school who have passed away, one of them being Kailah's nanny.  We celebrated this special occasion with waiata, karakia, hangi and even some yummy steam pudding.  Thank you to all our whanau who brought their beautiful photos for our Marae.

  1. Kia ora Room 2,
I have been looking at lots of class blogs over the last couple of weeks and seeing lots about how others are celebrating Matariki. This is the first time I have read about bringing in photos of special people who have passed to share. What a great idea to include these photos as part of your celebrations at Matariki. I'm sure all of your ancestors would have been very impressed with your learning and the way you are sharing your learning at Kawakawa School. Did you all enjoy the hangi and the steamed pudding? Did lots of whānau come to join your celebration?
