Welcome to Ngā Rau Puawai's class blog, we are a bilingual class of year 4 & year 5 students and our teacher is Whaea Sally. Join us on our blogging journey and leave us a comment - we would love to hear your feedback.
While most of us in Room 2 were having the time of our lives at our Marsden Bay Camp, our class movie for the 2017 KEN Movie Night was being showcased at Northland College in Kaikohe.
This short film was based around people who have experienced "put downs."
Our class chose 3 of our students and decided to treat them to something very special.

We knew you were very nervous at the time and we are so proud of you both.
Hooray! We were chosen as class of the week again. Thank you so much to Room 1 and Mrs Norman for choosing our class this week. Whaea Sally was so proud of us and gave us a little free time as a reward.
Next week we will be looking for the best class who:
(1) Shows respect and sings proudly in Taumata,
(2) Takes pride in our school by keeping it clean, and
(3) Shows respect and encouragement in next week's assembly.

We had a great start for the last term of school and spent all week preparing for our class assembly.
Our first item was a beautiful song called "Space in between" sung by Tunisia and Tahlya, they only had a few practises but we were so proud of their confident cheering, the crowd was so supportive of the girls too.
We decided to read one of Roald Dahl's revolting rhymes together as a class. Whaea Sally grouped us together and gave each group a character. Together, the group had to read their parts of the revolting rhyme, it was very tricky at first, but we managed to read the whole rhyme together by Assembly day. Our next steps are to work on volume and projecting our voices out into the crowd.
Razor, Karisa, Treziah and Angel stood before the school and read out some of their "I am" poems that we created last Term. Some of the teachers gave them some lovely feedback about their poems and Whaea Sally was proud of them for sharing their work. Here is what their "I am" poems look like in class.
And last but not least we shared with the school our top 4 rules for surviving Room 2. We thought that it would be a good idea for next years students to know the ins and outs of Room 2 and together we put together this video. We had so much fun making this movie together, and we were so glad the rest of the school enjoyed it too.

We had our whole school cross country at the United Kawakawa rugby field on Thursday and what a day it was. We were lucky enough to travel to there by train and boy was it noisy. The train was filled with singing and Whaea Sally strumming on the guitar, excited chatter among friends, not to mention the squeals from some of the students who has never been on the train before.
Well done to all our students who have made it to the SBOI inter school cross country: Deeny, Tahlya, Angel, Mia, Vaughan, Dayton, LJ, Razor, Nathan and Daniel.
We are proud to announce that we are the class of the week this week... Hip hip, horay!

10 o'clock we had our school assembly at the school hall. The whole school came to our class assembly, they were very noisy when they came into the school hall. Once everybody was quiet, I welcomed everybody to our assembly and said "Please stand for the for the National Anthem." We did heaps of acts and asked if all the syndicate teachers could present their certificates. It was a long but fun assembly and I can't wait to do it again.
On Tuesday, we had a very special visitor from the Zero Waste Education. Her name was Anouk and she came to talk to us all about recycling. We learnt a lot of interesting facts like what aluminium was made from, what happens to rubbish once it gets to landfill. We even shared with Anouk some of the facts that we knew from our plastic fantastic inquiry. We did lots of hands on activities as well. Have a look at our video to see what we did.
